Under the direction of CTE Dean, organize, maintain and operate Chemeketa
Community College Career Center and provide a wide variety of career information and materials;
communicate with students, faculty, industry, and community representatives concerning career
planning, job readiness, and employment.
SALARY & BENEFITS
Classified salary schedule, $3,641/mo
Initial salary placement would
rarely extend beyond step 3; $3,996/mo.
Salary placement is subject to current contract, funding
availability, experience and education.

Career Services is recruiting for a 12-month Career Development Coordinator and Career Counselor position to provide direct career development assistance to students and alumni. This position works cooperatively with community and university agencies and colleges who serve the education and career development needs of the students. Duties include: Career development programming and coordination, supervising graduate assistants, consulting with the director on needs and policy development, consult with faculty, staff, administrators, and employers regarding career development needs of students. This full-time, fixed term position reports to and is renewable by the Director of Career Services.
Require qualifications include a Master’s degree in counseling or related; demonstrated successful supervision and leadership experience and at least two years experience at the university/college level counseling; career planning, or vocational counseling; experience in presenting workshops on career development or job search topics; and supervision.
Knowledge and experience with the interpretation of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator and the Strong Interest Inventory; knowledge of career development theories and best practices. Committed to a developmental philosophy and possesses multicultural counseling skills. Keeps up to date on career development and labor market information and practices. Creates and maintains effective counseling relationships.
Requires outstanding oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to occasionally travel to meetings, classes or conferences.

Director of Service Learning & Career Development, Western Oregon University
Western Oregon University (WOU) is Oregon’s mid-sized public liberal arts university located in the Monmouth-Independence area, the heart of Oregon’s lush Willamette Valley, which serves a large number of Oregon's first-generation college students. Western Oregon University is seeking a Director of Service Learning & Career Development. This is a full-time, 12-month, annually renewable position in Student Affairs. Student Affairs leads the recruitment, retention, and student development efforts of WOU and is committed to a quality educational experience. The Center for Service Learning & Career Development (SLCD) provides a comprehensive approach to career preparation, professional development, and service to the community through relevant experiential educational opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s Degree in higher education administration, student personnel, counseling, or related discipline and minimum of three years experience in service learning and/or career services program administration, budgeting, and supervision are required. The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication, public relations, and customer service skills. The ability to facilitate and model a collaborative team environment is necessary.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Director of Service Learning & Career Development will be responsible for the overall administration of WOU’s Service Learning & Career Development programs, coordinating service learning opportunities for students and working with students, faculty, and outside agencies to structure projects that are beneficial to both the student and the agency. The duties and responsibilities include:
PROGRAM MANAGEMENT & SERVICE DELIVERY (60%)
Service Learning Programs & Services: Coordinate the development and expansion of the campus and community partnerships necessary for service-learning programs. Supervise the management of the WOU Alternative Break & Service Learning Trip program, assisting students with placements and securing funding from public and private sources to support the development and advancement of partnerships as they relate to service-learning.
Career Development Programs & Services: Oversee the development of all projects and their timelines for all career exploration and job search readiness programming. Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and provide special program opportunities, providing individual advisement and career counseling to students. Conduct career planning and job search workshops, seminars, and classroom presentations. Participate in student recruitment programs as necessary.
PROGRAM PLANNING & ADMINISTRATION (10%)
Establish programs that are congruent with CAS Standards for career services and other appropriate outcome benchmark indicators. Determine, develop, and coordinate comprehensive career planning and development programs and services including advisement, outreach, program delivery, and consultation. Establish policies and procedures for the office and for on-campus recruitment programs that are in compliance with WOU policies, the OAR’s, OUS policies, and/or NACE principles.
EMPLOYER & RECRUITER RELATIONS (15%)
Establish strong, on-going, positive relations with service-learning community partners and recruit employers on behalf of WOU students and alumni. Promote WOU’s academic programs to potential and recruiting employers and coordinate campus job and career fairs. Identify and establish new on-campus recruitment programs and opportunities for students.
BUDGETING/FINANCIAL & HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT (10%)
Oversee and implement office budget, researching to secure funding sources to support the development and advancement of service-learning partnerships. Responsible for hiring, training, and supervision of all SLCD university staff, student employees, and student-paraprofessionals.
STUDENT EMPLOYMENT (5%)
Work with the Financial Aid Office to coordinate the oversight of the Student Employment and Job Location & Development budget, activities, and reporting statistics. Coordinate with the Financial Aid Office to implement the Federal Work-study Community Services Program and the development of the “America Reads and America Counts” program, including the promotion of the off-campus federal work-study community service program. Assist students in locating part-time employment to help them pay for their educational expenses and to gain work experience. Conduct presentations for new students that include information on services provided for student employment opportunities.

Position Summary
Develop and present information to prospective undergraduate and graduate students through individual admissions counseling appointments, recruitment events, presentations, email and phone. Provide academic and degree requirement counseling to prospective students including assisting with academic issues and concerns. Work with the Associate Director in the planning and implementation of a strategic recruitment plan.
Coordinate recruitment efforts with other Student Affairs staff, faculty, alumni and community. Organize special events such as: information nights, transfer/high school/middle school visits, and others as assigned by the Associate Director. Participate in high school, community college, and corporate fairs. Review applications for admission. Establish and maintain relationships/contacts with high school and community college counselors, teachers, and community.
This position will also provide relevant support services to a small population of international students in achieving their educational objectives. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to, informing and educating international students and scholars about immigration regulations and WSU policies and procedures; issuing documents and performing other event based reporting to SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) as a Designated School Official (DSO); and authorizing school transfers, reduced course loads, and certain types of employment for international students.

A Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience in providing professional advising or counseling to University students. A Master's degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience.
