Career Resource Specialist, Oregon State University Career Services
Position Summary
The Office of Career Services invites applications for a part-time (0.49 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term, Career Resource Specialist. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Director.
The Career Resource Specialist (CRS) provides students and alumni assistance with job/internship/graduate school search and application process. The CRS manages online and printed career information resources and disseminates information to the OSU community through electronic media and presentations.
Position Duties
The Career Resource Specialist provides a wide range of career information and career planning services to the Oregon State University students and community. Primary responsibilities include
1) meeting with students/alumni individually for job/internship search or graduate/professional school advising,
2) providing outreach focused on accessing career resources, services, and information, and
3) updating, maintaining, and managing career-related resources and electronic services.
40% - Information Management
40% - Job Search Advising
20% - Outreach
Minimum/Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in a discipline of choice and at least one year prior work experience in advising, career planning, career placement, higher education, or related area.
- Desire and commitment to work with students and alumni, and demonstrated commitment to the career development of individuals.
- Excellent writing and research skills and a desire to assist students and keep updated on new technology.
- Ability to effectively navigate internet resources and content, and perform basic web-related tasks such as updating website content.
- Well developed and demonstrated communication skills and basic knowledge of professionalism in the context of a job search.
- Good presentation and public speaking skills.
- Prior experience working with career development issues and/or experience working in a career services department.
Expertise in the following areas:
a. Career resources, job search methods, and labor market information
b. Basic helping and facilitation skills
c. Common computer software
d. Diversity and specific population needs
e. Ethical and scope-of-practice issues
Basic knowledge of:
a. Career Planning Process
b. Career development models and theories
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters Degree in education, higher education administration, counseling, or related field.
- Advanced capability in social networking.
- Career Development Facilitator Certificate.
- A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.

Career Development Counselor, Oregon State University Career Services
Position Summary
The Office of Career Services invites applications for a part-time (0.49 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term Career Development Counselor. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Director.
The Career Counselor provides direct career development assistance to students and alumni and works cooperatively with community and university agencies and colleges who serve the education and career development needs of students. This position reports to the Career Development Coordinator and Assistant Director of Career Services.
Position Duties
Provide expertise and leadership in the following areas: job search strategies and outreach, career exploration opportunities, counseling, and development of computer-based career search strategies/technology.
The Career Counselor is responsible for providing counseling services to OSU students and alumni.
75% DIRECT SERVICE:
Provides direct career counseling and advising to students and alumni; conducts outreach presentations; consultation, teaching and career assessment commensurate with the standards of the profession.
15% ADMINISTRATIVE:
Keeps timely, thorough, and accurate records of counseling sessions and student contact. Participates in weekly counselor meetings, and staff meetings as available.
10% OUTREACH:
Assists in other career development services such as workshops, groups, and Career Fairs when needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Maintain professional standards of practice through participation and involvement in continuing education activities.
Maintain and promote the highest ethical and professional standards commensurate with training, licensure, certification, or discipline.
